Bakari is a Spanish jewelry and accessories brand founded by Carmen Lopéz in 2015. Combining artisanal craftsmanship with a modern architectural design philosophy, Bakari creates sculptural accessories through a pairing of luxurious and organic materials with a primary focus on wood and marble. Bakari celebrates Spanish heritage through the designer’s eyes, from nature to the modern architecture of her hometown Madrid to the unconventional use of geometry by artists like Picasso and Miró.
Proudly made in Spain, each piece preserves the tradition of classic Spanish expertise, passing through the hands of generational artisans with which Lopéz closely collaborates. Jewelry is crafted from Ecosilver, a high-quality sterling silver that is 100% recycled while handbags are assembled from Spanish cowhide and wood embellishments.
Bakari was launched with the purpose of preserving handmade production and utilizing sustainable materials without compromising a forward-minded and relevant design perspective. It was during the early days of her career as a corporate lawyer that Lopéz gave in to her creative calling, when she decided to enroll in jewelry design courses during her weekends off. Shortly thereafter, she pursued a Master’s degree in Fashion Accessories Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Madrid, after which she founded her own company that fuses her values of sustainability, artisanship, artistic sculpture and architecture.
Bakari is a proud partner of Asociacion Coni, a non-profit organization that provides food, education, sanitation support as well as microfinancing programs for women in developing communities in Guatemala.
